Osman Yousefzada: The Go-Between

A Portrait of Growing Up Between Different Worlds

24 April 2023

We hosted Osman Yousefzada discussing his highly acclaimed childhood memoir The Go-Between, winner of the Slightly Foxed Best First Biography Prize and described by Stephen Fry as ‘one of the great childhood memoirs of our times’.

We loved talking to him about his extraordinary childhood in a closed migrant community in 1980s Birmingham, a hidden world of Dickensian poverty and colour. He was especially candid and moving about wanting to tell the stories of the women whose lives were lived behind closed doors. We learnt so much from him!
