Writing Courses
‘I came away feeling confident in what I want to write, and stopped feeling like an impostor!’
— Ashton, chef
Silk Road Slippers runs five-day Writing Masterclasses in Marrakech, five-day Writing Retreats in the English countryside, and one-day London Workshops on a houseboat in Chelsea. All courses are run by publishers, editors and writers Alexandra Pringle, Alex von Tunzelmann and Faiza S Khan.
Many of our participants have never written before and are looking to begin. Some have been writing, have lost momentum, and are seeking new impetus. Some have already published books – from memoir to fiction, from history to self-help – and are looking to refine their skills or explore different kinds of writing. Others have a complete first draft and are looking for help in the process of redrafting. All wish to find joy in their creativity and expand their potential in an inspiring and supportive environment.
Our participants have a wide range of goals. We’ve had many who want to write about their own lives, or family histories for their children and grandchildren to treasure. Some want to communicate better on social media. Many hope to publish books. We bring together those writing fiction, nonfiction, memoirs and anything else, believing strongly that we can all learn from each other. With our long experience in the publishing world, we can advise on how to go about finding an agent and publisher, and how best to present and attract interest in your work.
IWe have participants from all over the world: from the UK, Europe, the US and Canada, all across Asia, Africa, Latin America and Australasia. They come from many different professions. Some have experience with storytelling; to others, it’s all new. Writing can be solitary. At Silk Road Slippers, our participants often form supportive groups of friends and colleagues that continue long after the course has finished.
