Writing Masterclasses

For writers of every level – from beginners to bestsellers – Silk Road Slippers Writing Masterclasses are designed to transform your work, by unlocking your potential, developing the skills to find your unique voice, and nurturing your creativity.

The classes are taught by Alexandra Pringle, publisher, editor, literary agent and writer, former editor-in-chief of Bloomsbury Publishing; Alex von Tunzelmann, internationally bestselling historian, broadcaster and screenwriter; and Faiza Khan, editor, mentor and literary consultant.

Our five-day Masterclasses offer participants unparalleled access to some of the most celebrated figures in the world of literature as Guest Authors, including winners of the Booker Prize, National Book Award, Women’s Prize, Pulitzer Prize and Nobel Prize for Literature. Guest Authors join us for an exclusive session, a reading and discussion of their work, and a Celebratory Dinner. We have unique access to agents and publishers internationally, and have made introductions for several participants who are at a publishable stage.

Set in Morocco’s idyllic Jnane Tamsna, our five-night Masterclasses in Marrakech are a literary experience like no other.

What will you learn?

Silk Road Slippers Masterclasses unleash your creativity through immersive workshops and one-to-one feedback. From finding your story, through conquering the fear of the blank page, to drafting, editing and rewriting, and to choosing an agent and publisher for your work, we cover the whole of the literary process. We also have a lot of fun along the way!

We love to stay in touch with our Masterclass participants. Drawing on our vast network within the publishing industry, Silk Road Slippers provides consultation on everything from finding the best agent for your work to navigating publication.

Each day includes a scheduled morning and afternoon session with the Silk Road Slippers team, with a light lunch in between. The Guest Author leads an exclusive session, sharing their expertise, technique and experiences.

At candlelit dinners on three evenings, you will have the opportunity to mingle and make creative connections with your fellow writers, and spend relaxed time with the Silk Road Slippers team. The Guest Author also gives a reading from their work and attends our Celebratory Dinner. Two evenings are kept free for you to explore Marrakech at night, or relax at your accommodation, as your heart desires.

The Silk Road Slippers Tuition Package – including all tuition, most meals, refreshments during classes, and a lunch out in Marrakech – is £3200 per person. An earlybird discount of £200 is available for early reservations. Accommodation and flights are booked separately.
